how times have changed.

On a random search through google images, I came across some unnerving advertisements from the 20's through to the 60's. So I thought I'd use this post to display some of the ones that caught my attention. I really think that ad/media agencies must have thought the general public were just plain stupid and gullible. I have to admit though, research is alot more refined now, and we have found that some things just don't work or are extremely dangerous, but still the way these ads are put together leaves you wondering.

I have to say that of course I agree with the protection against sexually transmitted diseases, (advertised below) but the fact that only 'loose' women are portrayed, and not men, really shows the inequalities women faced. I'm sure that the old opinion promiscuous women are sluts and promiscuous men are studs is still agreed upon within certain circles.

Note: There is one ad at the very end that promotes war jobs for women. Honestly, I would like to know why was has ever been glorified and when did it begin? Yes, the people who serve our countries are brave and have defended us through centuries, but I am stunned that up until only a few years back did this media parade of glorification stop.

I hope we have learned from the past in most respects.

Goodnight all,
lm. x
